Words, words, words, on Shakespeare

One spring afternoon, while sitting through yet another boring high school English lecture, my daydreams were interrupted by my teacher’s explanation of Lady Macbeth’s madness. I watched, mesmerized as he mimicked washing his hands while sleepwalking, uttering “Out, damn spot, out I say!”. Our teacher did not have to spell it out for me; I instantly understood that Lady Macbeth had stained her soul with Duncan’s blood.

I made two vows that day: I would never do anything that would stain my soul, and I would learn everything I could about the playwright who drove this point home. Thirty odd years later I am still learning, only now I am the one lecturing about Shakespeare. This page is where you will find some of my ideas and thoughts about the remarkable works of Shakespeare.

On March 22 I will be giving a talk on “Why Shakespeare Matters” and reading from my upcoming book, “The Groundling’s Guide to Shakespeare” at the Carson City Library at 6PM with a Q&A starting at 7PM. Admission is free but it’s first come first seated.

  1. Hello, My name is Barbara and I would like to get in touch with you. Do you have an email that I can write to you? I´ll make my MA in Shakespeare, I hope this year if I get the money. Best regards, Barbara

    1. Hello Barbara. Oh how I envy you! So young and in the United Kingdom working on your MA. I wish you the very best of luck! Yes, I have an e-mail, but would hate to share it with the world, you know spammers. How about I send you a Facebook friend request?
